We lived off base and found that to be a nice option.  I will say if you have to use TLF opt for the Famcamp. Seriously the trailers were really nice and spacious. TLF not so much.  Also the woodsy-ness of Famcamp is more relaxing than the hustle and noise of the TLF area.

There's not a ton to do other than the Boardwalk so it's not the most energizing of stations and the summers are really humid.  We don't have school-aged children so I can't comment on the school system.

I had a really bad experience at Dr. Charles Adams eyecare in Bossier. I was referred by Tricare. He gave me the wrong prescription and when I said I couldn't SEE with the prescription he gave me he said "eyes change as you age." Well yeah that's why I go to the eye doctor... Anyway I ended up going to Walmart eye center and it turns out that Dr. Adams did give me the wrong prescription and wrong BC for my contacts.  Walmart was good about everything surprisingly and if we were still stationed there I'd probably go there for my eye exams.

There are a couple Aveda salons in Shreveport and decent restaurants there too.  In Bossier the Greek restaurant on Airline is actually pretty good even though it looks shabby from the outside.

The Starbucks on base is awful in my opinion and it ticks me off because I like my Starbucks.  : )  The one on Airline is good just horrendous traffic on Airline at all times.

Anyway those are my random musings on Barksdale and area.

Housing for enlisted is nice, you can live in historic beautiful houses being renovated, a 10 year old neighborhood, or the one that they are working on now all are nice and with the new houses I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m sure waiting will go down we had a 2 month wait a year ago. Off base lots of apartments and choices close to base or out of town. Medical clinic is nice but they send you off base a lot and doctors seem to be temp or mine have. Not good service though medical wise. Lots to do on and off base and close to lots of travel places.
